Steady-state alignment of polymer segments

The flow alignment of polymer chains in a melt is calculated from a Fokker-Planck equation. For the case of a stationary plane Couette geometry the result is parametrized by the tensor components for the alignment of chain ends. It is expressed in terms of the orientational and one-dimensional reptational diffusion constants, the chain length, the shape of the segment and the shear rate.
