Developments in Polymer Theory and Simulation
Polymers 12 (2020) 30

Polymer theory and simulation are topics that are still growing (Figure 1), highlighting the needfor an understanding of microscopic mechanisms influencing material properties of systems containingmacromolecules. While there is a clear tendency for a growing industrial interest in biodegradablepolymers and speciality polymers, many questions related to the behavior of polymeric systems can betackled using theoretical approaches that apply to most kinds of polymers. Polymeric materials displaydistinguished characteristics which stem from the interplay of phenomena at various lengths and timescales. Further development of polymer systems critically relies on a comprehensive understanding of thefundamentals of their hierarchical structure and behaviors. Composite materials containing polymers offera huge diversity that is currently explored. With the help of increasing computational resources, the studyof entangled polymers is, nowadays, within reach. Multiscale approaches are developed and investigatedin parallel. This editorial aims at highlighting some of the developments reflected by articles published inPolymerssince 2017.
