Mesoscopic Lattice Boltzmann Modeling of Flowing Soft Systems

Sauro Succi

Rome, Italy

A multicomponent lattice Boltzmann model with short-range repulsion between different species and short(mid)-range attractive (repulsive) interactions between like molecules is discussed. The interplay between these composite interactions gives rise to many features of disordered liquid dispersions (microemulsions) and soft-glassy materials, such as long-time relaxation, caging effects, anomalous viscosity, ageing under moderate shear and flow above a critical shear rate. The new model shows excellent performance on GPU machines, and shows promises to offer a new angle of attack to the numerical simulation of complex flowing soft-matter systems.
